Social Media in 2026 - Why I am less active on my social apps….

Well it’s 2026 and I have been absent from writing blogs for some time now, so what better way to start then going on what some might say is a rant about social media. So if you have a few minutes sit back relax an hear ( read ) my thoughts on social media lately. It’s not all negative mind you! ……

So about 2 years ago I got rid of Facebook, I honestly was not getting much traction on there anymore and it was essentially becoming a dumpster fire. My “business” page wasn’t generating me much in the way of followers for the amount of time and energy I was putting into it. My personal page was a dumpster fire of stuff I didn’t even follow and really just rage bait posts. I was just not enjoying any of my time on there anymore and so deleted my account. Now my experience is mine alone and I know lots of people who have great success on there so if you like it don’t give up on it.

Next on my list another Meta product Instagram, which I still have. I still have IG you can find me @kevinjmurrphotography but I rarely post on there anymore, I use it to share some stuff in stories maybe from a day out shooting behind the scenes type of things. And sharing post of articles or environmental concerns I think are worth sharing, granted I have lost a few followers because of this and honestly that’s ok. If you do not agree with my ideals or political views I wont loose any sleep over it. Anyways I do not like IG but for now it stays but may get a lot less of my attention, If I follow you on there don’t take it personally if I haven’t liked or commented in awhile I just find it very draining now and I am pretty sure I am not alone. I really do try to post on it when I can and you might notice it goes in waves, Chances are if I posted a lot recently I was either off work for a few days or just finally had a slow week. Maybe I will try and post on my lunch breaks but honestly I usually just hsut down and listen to a podcast, we shall see!

Apps like twitter I tried a long time ago but it was not for me, and well it has not gotten any better from what I have heard. Then there is bluesky which I did give a go and actually did not mind it really. But again the problem I would have is the more apps the more draining the less enjoyment I got out of it. Not because anything was particularly wrong with the app but much like IG it felt like if you weren’t constantly posting something you were left behind and I don’t want that anymore. I unfortunately have a full time job that drains me mentally and physically not to mention just being an adult and homeowner, there is really only so much time in a day. I would like to be spending that time actually out with my camera photographing or spending a quiet morning editing.

So what if any apps do I use….. well first if you have kept reading this far let me stop and just say thank you and as for the apps I will be posting mostly on, well that’s easy. There is a new app called Foto they have a mobile app and are currently working on a browser model, I use it to share images but ill admit I have not fully adopted it yet. The things I like about it are that it is chronological, your posts are in a higher resolution and I honestly don’t feel any pressure to post regularly on there, Click here to find me Foto. Secondly I have gone back to the Old G Flickr even going as far as paying for a pro account. I bulk upload whatever images I have recently edited and then once a week “ roughly “ go in and share them to groups. The images are high res and look great on a computer screen the phone app is not bad either though there are a few things that they could change. It’s basically where I will be putting most of my energy into outside of my own website, which is where most of my focus is going to go. Between uploading all my images in higher res and getting back into this blogging thing I also have all the control and for you guys there’s no ads. I will have to rely a little on apps like Ig to push my website on by sharing then a new blog or set of images has gone up but that’s also where Flickr comes in as well. I should add here that I have a youtube channel, now i have not been active on there or posted any content in awhile. Maybe a short here or there but it is something I would like to get back into so let me know if you are interested in seeing me make some videos maybe give me some ideas of what you want to see. See my youtube chanel here!

Well that’s it I blogged again, it was short enough and did take muuch of your time I hope. It may be a bit hap hazard as I am a bit rusty but hopefully not completely off the rails. Don’t take my experiences with any of these personally either, I’m sure you all have similar or completely different experiences on these social apps. Use what you enjoy and makes you happy but if all it does it drain you maybe its time to take a break or leave all together. As for me well I hope you check back here or follow me on my Flickr account as these are the two places I will mainly be………. Bye for now ….. O and feel free to leave a comment with your thoughts.
